How to live a Minimal & Meaningful life

Living a minimal and meaningful life is important to me because I know how good a clear space makes me feel.

Recently I’ve noticed how minimal my mentality has become. My husband and I were looking back at our spending and noticed we have been really smart and it was surprisingly easy. So I just want to share a few tips on how to have a minimal mindset.

Right now we live in Dubai, our home is in Canada so we know we don’t want to invest too much in our lives here because it won’t be long term. All of last year we didn’t even own a sofa! We didn’t even need it, we would just come home from work, do some yoga, have dinner, go for a walk and head to bed. However! Now we do have more furniture, but it was all kindly left behind by our freinds. I love it because we aren’t spending money on brand new things and it has helped strengthen this mindset

1. Don’t spend money unnecessarily

By this I mean don’t waste money on things that will only last a short period of time. The last time I bought something was for my husbands 30th birthday and that definitely wasn’t unnecessary.

By this I mean don’t spend money on things that you will let go of in a few weeks or months. Try to buy things that will last a lifetime so you know they actually bring value to your life.

2. Try and be more sustainable

We have also found that we are naturally finding ourselves wanting to live more sustainable because it means a lot to us. So I feel really grateful to have this time and do research into brands and companies that we can connect with

So yeah because we aren’t home we are not buying things for our home that we might have done. But I’m so grateful for this experience because it’s helping us get into this minimal mindset and making sure we buy things with meaningful intentions.

3. Buy things with meaningful intention

Connect with everything you bring into your home. If something doesn’t add joy or value to your life, try not to bring it into your space. The same goes with people. You want to make sure that everything in your space is your choice.

Keep it positive and clean. Your space is what’s in your mind but also what is physically around you.

4. Only have things that spark joy

Being minimal is not about only having things that you need. It’s about making sure you have things around you that spark joy. As most of us are familiar with Marie Kondos advice to only own things that spark joy.

So you don’t have to clear out everything in your home.

We love art and books and plants so we hope to have so many at home.

5. Remove extra clutter

I don’t find the idea of extra furniture and decor as something that’s necessary either, I also think that sometimes these things can stop the energy from flowing through your home freely. That’s just another part of it i definitely notice this too.

Having a clear space to live in just brings so much peace and clarity. We have accidentally kept it minimal at home because we haven’t really had a chance to buy furniture as we left Canada a few months after buying our home.

We always get complimented on the peace that people feel in our home. We find that this is because space just allows energy to flow freely. This means positive energy can come in and negative energy can easily leave.

We all have that space in our home or drawer in our room that we avoid looking at so I really recommend tackling it now! This means all of your space will be clear and peacful.

6. Shop mindfully

I also have another way of living that when i see something i love in a shp and i would buy there and then unless its the last one available no matter how much i want it i will step out and leave it. I give myself a few days and if it is still on my mind then i will get it but in most cases i wouldv;e forgotten. In face 90 % of the time i dont think about it.

7. Be on the same page with others in your space

It’s really nice that my husband an I are also on the same page with this because its a lot easier and saves some disagreemetns, We both care about the environment and have a good awareness of how companies use psychology to win us over. Which sometimes its great, but as long as you always remember that youre the consumer and you always have the control, you wont really let these big companies win.

8. Set boundaries as a consumer

make yur own decision and don’t forget that you are always the consumer and the control of what you buy

i used to be the one who always gives in to buying perfumes just because someone sprayed it on me so its important lessons like this that you need to work on shifting your mindset etc

9. Spend money on meaningful things

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that I love eating and traveling

To me life isn’t always about saving money, it’s about spending my money on experiences and really seeing the world and enjoying it in that moment. I don’t always have a need to buy a designer handbag that will be out of fashion in a year. I don’t think it’s wrong it’s just that I’m too clumsy to look after expensive things. As long as these things are important to you that’s what matters.

I hope this helps you on your journey!

Sending you lots of love,
